Mercurious.ai is Rob Abbey's AI consultancy. This page explains what information we collect when you visit or get in touch, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We've written it in plain English because privacy policies don't need to be confusing. If you have questions about any of this, email .
Who we are
Mercurious.ai is operated by Rob Abbey, based in Athlone, Ireland. Rob is the data controller — meaning he's the person responsible for how your information is handled.

What we collect and why
When you visit the site
We use Plausible Analytics to understand how people use the site — pages visited, how you arrived, and time spent. Plausible is cookieless and collects no personal data whatsoever. It cannot identify you as an individual, does not track you across other websites, and does not build any kind of profile. There is no retargeting, no behavioural advertising, and no data shared with ad networks — ever.
Because Plausible uses no cookies and collects no personal data, it does not require your consent under GDPR. We mention it here because we think you deserve to know it exists, even when it's harmless.
When you get in touch
If you use the contact form or email us directly, we receive your name, email address, and your message. We use it to reply to you. Contact form submissions are processed via MailerLite (see Third Parties below). You will receive a confirmation email asking you to verify your address before we can respond — this is a double opt-in process required under GDPR.
If you book a discovery call or enquire about our services, we may add you to our mailing list to keep you informed about AI insights and Mercurious.ai updates. We'll always tell you when we do this, and every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. We will never add you to a list without telling you first.
When you book a call
If you book a discovery call through the booking widget on this site, your name, email address, and any message you leave are processed by Zeeg, our appointment scheduling tool (see Third Parties below). Zeeg is based in the EU and is GDPR-compliant by design. You will receive a booking confirmation email from Zeeg directly.
When you use the chatbot
If you chat with the assistant on the site, the conversation may be logged so Rob can review it and improve the service. If you share your name and email during the conversation, that information is stored securely. You'll always be asked before anything identifying you is saved, and you can say no.
Who we share your data with
Nobody commercially. We don't sell data. We don't share your details with marketing companies.
The only third parties involved are the tools that run the site:
- Plausible Analytics — provides anonymous, cookieless website analytics. No personal data is collected, no cookies are set, and no tracking occurs across other websites. Plausible is based in the EU and processes no personally identifiable information. See Plausible's privacy policy.
- MailerLite — handles contact form submissions and email communications, including the double opt-in confirmation process. MailerLite is based in Lithuania, EU, and is fully GDPR-compliant. See MailerLite's privacy policy.
- Zeeg — manages appointment bookings made through this site. Zeeg is based in Germany, EU, and is GDPR-compliant by design. See Zeeg's privacy policy.
- Netlify — hosts the website. Netlify is a US company, but your data is protected under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
- Supabase — stores chatbot conversation logs, if you use the chatbot. Data is stored on EU servers in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Anthropic — powers the chatbot AI. Anthropic is a US company; data is processed to generate responses and is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy.
Our approach to data and privacy
Rob advises Irish businesses on AI, which means thinking carefully about where data goes and who controls it. That thinking applies to Mercurious.ai itself.
Wherever a genuine European alternative exists, we choose it. MailerLite is Lithuanian. Zeeg is German. Plausible Analytics is Estonian. Supabase stores data in Frankfurt. This isn't just compliance box-ticking — it's a deliberate choice to keep your data within a legal and regulatory framework that gives you real rights and real recourse.
We're not ideological about it. Where a European alternative doesn't exist or isn't fit for purpose (Netlify for hosting, Anthropic for the chatbot AI), we use US services that have committed to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. But European-first is our default, and we think that matters — especially for Irish businesses who are rightly cautious about where their information ends up.
How long we keep things
Contact enquiries — as long as needed to handle your query, typically no more than two years.
Chatbot conversations — 12 months, then deleted.
Cookie preference — stored in your browser until you clear it or change your mind.
Mailing list — until you unsubscribe.

- Correct anything that's wrong
- Have your data deleted — just ask
- Object to how we're using it
- Withdraw your analytics consent at any time using the "Manage preferences" link in the cookie banner

Cookies
A cookie is a small file stored in your browser. We use one to remember your privacy preference. If you accept analytics, a few more may be added to collect anonymous usage data. We don't use cookies to track you across other websites or build any kind of profile.
You can manage or withdraw your consent at any time using the link in the cookie banner on the main site.
